Music Generation Built Into Gemini

Google has added Lyria 3, its most advanced AI music-creation model, to the Gemini app in beta. Users can now generate 30-second music tracks directly from text, images, or video prompts, complete with vocals and instrumental layers.

Create Original Songs With Simple Prompts

Instead of traditional music tools, users just describe a mood, genre, or creative idea like “a soulful jazz track at sunset,” and Gemini will compose a custom soundtrack. The model can generate lyrics too, making it a versatile creative partner.

Visual Inputs Turn Into Soundtracks

Beyond text, Lyria 3 can analyze photos or videos and produce music that matches the vibe or emotion of the visuals, letting users turn memories or moments into personalized soundtracks.

Custom Cover Art and Sharing Tools

Each track generated in the Gemini app also includes custom AI-created cover art made using Nano Banana, making it easy to share songs on social platforms or with friends.

Transparency and Safety Features

To help with content authenticity, Lyria 3 uses SynthID watermarking, an inaudible code embedded in AI-generated audio so that music made by AI can be identified clearly and responsibly. It’s designed for expressive fun rather than professional production.

AI Feature Highlighted in Super Bowl Ad

Ring aired a Super Bowl commercial promoting its AI-driven Search Party tool, showing connected Ring cameras scanning a neighborhood to help find a lost dog. Critics say the portrayal struck a nerve because it visually resembled a mass surveillance system.

Privacy Concerns and Public Backlash

Viewers and privacy advocates raised alarms that the same underlying technology used to locate pets could, in theory, be adapted to track people from neighbors to strangers raising fears of surveillance overreach and erosion of personal privacy.

“Dystopian” Perception and Criticism

Many online commenters and civil liberties voices labeled the ad dystopian, pointing to Ring’s history with features like Familiar Faces and law enforcement data requests as evidence that the company’s AI tools could become tools for broader monitoring.

Cancellation of Flock Safety Partnership

In response to mounting criticism, Ring canceled its planned integration with surveillance firm Flock Safety, saying the partnership would take more time and resources than expected. The integration never actually launched, and Ring noted that no user video was shared.
