Day 141. $125,000 ARR on the product. Over $100K/month across the whole business. 359 days left.

Somewhere, right now, someone is building a clone of my product.

Actually, let me be accurate: HUNDREDS of someones. Every morning a new AI agent startup launches. Every demo I run, the prospect has already seen three tools that sound like mine. Every feature we ship gets copied by Friday. Building software has gotten so easy that the entire planet is building.

You know what I say to that?

Let them come.

Because I know something about this war that the weekend-project crowd doesn't, and this issue is about the single idea that separates the companies that will exist in three years from the thousands that won't. Plus the weapon we just built to make sure we're on the right side of that line.

Become a Cockroach

Pat Walls from Starter Story dropped a phrase this week that I haven't stopped thinking about: become a cockroach.

Here's the brutal math of every gold rush in history. Most people quit. Not because they lacked talent, ideas, or funding. They quit because it got hard, and quitting is what most people do when it gets hard. That's not an opinion. That's the filter, and it's built into every hard thing on earth.

So look at those thousand clones again. The weekend builders. The tourists. The "I made a SaaS with AI in 4 hours" guys. The filter is coming for ALL of them. First slow month, first churned customer, first competitor undercut, and they evaporate, because they were never built for war. They were built for a screenshot on X.

A cockroach survives nuclear war. And this AI moment IS war: the cheapest, fastest, most crowded land grab in software history. You don't win a war like this by being the prettiest or the newest. You win it by being ALIVE in year three, standing on a pile of dead side projects, still shipping, still selling, still answering the phone at 2am.

Fifteen years of sales calls. A failed cafe. $9,452 of ad tuition. A $58 month published in public. I've been filtered a hundred times and I'm still here, which is exactly why I'll still be here when the tourists are gone. Pressure doesn't make me want to fold anymore. Pressure is the sound of the field thinning.

And the beautiful paradox: the same force making this war so crowded, that it's never been easier to build, makes this the single best time in history to build a REAL business. The prize didn't shrink because the crowd grew. The prize grew, and the crowd is temporary.

The Thing the Clones Can't Copy

If anyone can ship software in a weekend, what's left that's actually hard?

Distribution. And after six months of this challenge, I can tell you the truth about distribution that no growth-hacking thread will: real distribution runs on real relationships. The septic tank company that called us. The franchise that found us. The distributors we're signing. The partners earning 20% to bring their people. Every leap this business has made came from a human trusting a human, with the machine amplifying that trust behind the scenes.

A clone can copy my features in a week. He cannot copy a handshake. He cannot copy 15 years of knowing how a deal breathes. He cannot copy a rep walking into a local business with a sell sheet and a name the owner recognizes.

Which brings me to the most contrarian move we've made yet. The entire AI industry is firing salespeople and replacing them with agents. We BUILD the agents, and we're doing the exact opposite:

We're hiring MORE salespeople. On purpose. BECAUSE we have AI.

The formula the whole company runs on now: AI responds. Humans deliver.

Preeya answers at 2am, captures, qualifies, books, briefs, chases, never sleeps. That's response, and no human will ever beat the machine at it. But the trust, the handshake, the "I know a guy who needs this"? That's delivery, and no machine will ever beat a human at it. Everyone picking one side of that formula is going to lose to the companies running both.

Building is cheap now. Showing up is the moat. So we're about to show up EVERYWHERE.

The Weapon: Thareja Academy

One problem with an army of salespeople: hiring is easy, making them lethal is hard, and watching me run calls doesn't scale.

So we built our own sales school. It's live: academy.thareja.org.

We looked at every off-the-shelf learning platform and course tool, then built our own LMS instead, same reason I build most things: simpler and better. No bloat, no per-seat pricing games. Short video lessons, scenario quizzes, and REAL field assignments. Nobody certifies by watching videos and clicking "done." You prove it in the field or you don't wear the badge, and every certificate is publicly verifiable.

The curriculum is everything I've learned since 2008, written down over the past year: how sales actually gets done, end to end. Prospecting, the first walk-in, qualifying, the call brief, objections, closing, follow-up. The entire machine from Week 8, turned into 13 modules. The flagship program builds a Thareja Field Sales Rep who goes from first walk-in to closed customer, without the founder on the call.

Read that last line again, because it's the whole growth thesis: every certified rep is another copy of the sales machine running without me. The AI cloned my follow-up. The academy clones my closing. The founder stops being the bottleneck, and the army scales.

It's invite-only for our team and partners right now. But if a sales program built from 15 years of calls and a $1.2M run rate journey is something you want access to, reply with the word ACADEMY. Enough hands go up, we open it to this list first, built in public like everything else.

This Week's Status

Day: 141 of 500

Product ARR: $125,000

Combined business: $100K+/month run rate

Launched: Thareja Academy (academy.thareja.org), our own sales LMS: 13 modules, field assignments, verifiable certificates

Hiring: More salespeople, on purpose, in the age of AI

Still cooking: The ChatGPT ads report (data's maturing, issue coming), distributor deals, the mobile app build

Biggest realization this week: The crowd isn't your competition. The filter is. And the filter works for whoever refuses to die.

Hit reply and tell me what you're building that you refuse to let die. One line. I want to know who the cockroaches on this list are, because those are the people I want in my corner, and the best ones get featured.

And if you know a founder rattled by the clone army coming for their market, send them this issue. The field is thinning. That's not the threat. That's the opportunity.

See you next Wednesday.
