Bing’s not backing down

Microsoft’s revamped Bing, supercharged with AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot, has helped the company grow its search and news ad revenue by $1.6 billion in the last fiscal year. It’s part of a long-term push to make Google “dance” and it's finally showing results.

Small gains, big money 

Bing now holds about 29% of the US desktop search market, up by 2.1 points. Globally, its desktop share has grown to around 11.6%. And here’s the kicker: every 1% gain in ad share represents about $2 billion in revenue.

While Microsoft climbs, Google’s search share has dropped 1.2 points in US desktop and over 6 points globally. Nothing dramatic, but enough to be noticed.

Edge, AI, and momentum

This is Bing and Edge’s fourth consecutive year of growth. Microsoft credits AI integration across services Bing, Edge, Copilot, and even Meta AI as a key driver behind the uptick.

Still early days

Despite gains, Bing’s global market share across all platforms is just around 4%. Microsoft knows it’s still far from the top, but the steady rise signals that Google’s untouchable era might be cracking.

Cook told Apple employees AI is “as big or bigger” than past revolutions smartphones, the internet, cloud and that “Apple must do this. Apple will do this. This is ours to grab”.

Acknowledging Apple’s history of lagging early, Cook compared Siri’s delay to past late starts, emphasizing Apple’s wins once it redefined categories now treating AI the same way.
