Spotify positions Prompted Playlists as a more interactive version of Discover Weekly, giving users the ability to guide the algorithm rather than just passively receiving recommendations.

Flexible Prompting and Refinement

Users can issue prompts like “music from my top artists from the last five years” or “high-energy pop and hip-hop for a 30-minute 5K run,” and can further refine the playlist by editing their prompt or starting anew.

Auto-Refresh Capability

Playlists can be configured to refresh on a daily or weekly basis, ensuring the music stays fresh and aligned with the original prompt and the user's evolving tastes.

Early Beta Rollout

As of December 11, 2025, Prompted Playlists are available in beta exclusively to Premium users in New Zealand, with broader rollout expected in the future.

Aetherflux’s Galactic Brain Initiative

Aetherflux, a U.S.-based startup, has announced plans to launch its first orbital data center satellite in early 2027 as part of a constellation called “Galactic Brain.” These satellites would harness continuous solar power to run AI workloads in orbit, bypassing the limitations of terrestrial infrastructure.  

Addressing Earth-Based Constraints

The initiative targets major bottlenecks in terrestrial data center deployment, namely land acquisition, utility access, and prolonged construction timelines (often spanning five to eight years). By contrast, the orbital approach promises faster deployment and uninterrupted solar energy.  

Backing from the AI Compute Race

Aetherflux’s CEO Baiju Bhatt, also co-founder of Robinhood, emphasizes that “the race for artificial general intelligence is fundamentally a race for compute capacity, and by extension, energy.” The “Galactic Brain” concept aims to “put the sunlight next to the silicon and skip the power grid entirely.

Competition from Tech Giants

The space-based data center concept has attracted interest from major players. Google is developing “Project Suncatcher,” exploring AI chips aboard solar-powered satellites. Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin has been advancing orbital data center technology for over a year, and SpaceX is reportedly adapting Starlink satellites for AI compute tasks. 

Challenges Ahead

Despite the promise, orbital data centers face significant obstacles: high launch costs, radiation exposure, orbital congestion, and the technical difficulty of maintaining AI hardware in space.
